Why does my Crossmint receipt show a different card number? (Apple Pay and Google Pay)

Last updated: September 21, 2026

Say your Crossmint receipt reads "card ending 8506" (an example; your receipt will show a different number) but none of your cards end in those digits. The purchase was most likely made with Apple Pay or Google Pay. This is expected and does not mean your card details were stolen.

Device account numbers

When you add a card to Apple Pay or Google Pay, your phone does not store your real card number. Instead, the wallet creates a device account number (sometimes called a virtual or tokenized card number) that is unique to that device. Merchants, including Crossmint, only ever see this device account number, so:

  • Receipts and order pages show the last four digits of the device account number, not of your physical card.
  • The same physical card has a different device account number on each phone, watch or tablet it is added to.
  • Your bank statement still shows the charge against your real card.

How to check which card was used

iPhone / Apple Pay

  1. Open the Wallet app and tap the card.
  2. Tap the button, then Card Details.
  3. Compare the Device Account Number last four digits with the number on your Crossmint receipt.

Android / Google Pay

  1. Open Google Wallet and tap the card.
  2. Tap Details (or the ⋮ menu) to see the Virtual account number.

If the digits match, the purchase was made from that device.

If the numbers still do not match

  • Check the other devices in your household that share the same Apple ID or Google account.
  • If no device matches and you do not recognize the purchase, follow I see a charge from "CROSSMINT*" that I do not recognize: contact your bank first, then report it to us with full details (screenshots of every charge, exact descriptor, amount, date and time, last 4 digits and whether the card is in Apple Pay or Google Pay).
