My card was declined. What should I do?

Last updated: September 21, 2026

A declined payment means your bank did not approve the charge. No money was taken and no tokens were sent. Here is how to get the purchase through.

Why banks decline these payments

  • Your bank blocks crypto-related merchants. Many banks, and most prepaid or neobank cards, decline purchases of tokens and stablecoins by default. The decline reason your bank gives us is usually "Do not honour" or "Transaction not permitted".
  • Insufficient funds or a daily limit. The amount, plus any bank fee for foreign or crypto transactions, is above what your card allows today.
  • 3D Secure was not completed. Crossmint verifies every card payment with your bank. If you closed the bank's verification pop-up, did not receive the code, or your bank's app did not prompt you, the payment is cancelled.
  • The card is not supported. Some card types, and cards issued in countries Crossmint does not serve, cannot be used.
  • The app has a limit on this purchase. The app you are buying in can cap the amount per purchase or per day; its support team can tell you the limit.

What to try

  1. Call your bank first, tell them you are making a purchase through Crossmint and ask them to approve it. This solves most declines; retrying before calling only creates more declines and more pending holds on your statement.
  2. Complete the bank verification when it appears (a code by SMS, a push notification in your banking app, or a pop-up) and do not close the checkout until you see the confirmation.
  3. Try a credit card issued by a major bank. Credit cards are declined far less often than debit or prepaid cards for this type of purchase.
  4. Try a smaller amount if the app or your bank has a per-purchase limit.

I see a pending charge for the declined payment

Your bank may show the amount as pending even though the payment was declined. This is an authorization hold, not a charge.

Please allow up to 10 business days for your bank to remove a pending hold. A hold for a payment that did not complete is released by your bank, on its own schedule. Crossmint cannot remove it, cancel it or speed it up: there is no captured payment on our side to refund. If it is still there after 10 business days, contact your bank; if your bank needs it, we can confirm in writing that nothing was captured.

Still declined?

Ask your bank for the exact decline reason. If they confirm they approved the payment and it still fails, contact us with the details below and we will check what our payment provider received.

Contact us

Submit a support ticket here. Please send everything you have in your first message: a screenshot of every charge with the exact date, time, amount, currency and statement description; the last 4 digits of the card and whether it is stored in Apple Pay or Google Pay; the app or website where you bought and the account you used there; your Crossmint receipt email(s) with the order ID; and what happened, in your own words. An incomplete report means we have to write back and ask, which delays your case by days.

Please never send your full card number, security code, passwords, one-time codes, private keys or recovery phrase.
